Security and Information Technology Management

The Security and Information Technology Management organization safeguards Franklin’s information, infrastructure, and digital services while delivering reliable, efficient, and secure technology solutions that support public safety, operational excellence, transparency, and exceptional service to our community.

City-wide computing and tele-communication needs are administered by the Security and Information Technology Management Department.  This includes the City Hall Complex local area network (LAN), as well as the City's wide area network (WAN), which includes all Fire Station locations, Public Works Garage, Sewer and Water Operations, Police Department Facility, and the Library. 

The City's security and information technology management functions are managed by the Director of Security and Information Technology Management who reports to the Director of Administration.  Two (2) other staff members assist the Director with security and information technology services.

Security Management: Focuses on protecting data, systems, and networks from threats.

  • IT Strategy, Policies, Standards and Procedures
    • Cybersecurity (preventing hacking, malware, ransomware)
    • Compliance and governance (e.g., frameworks like NIST, CJIS, or ISO etc.)

Risk Management is pervasive throughout all areas of IT security and must be addressed at every level.

Information Technology Management: Focuses on planning, implementing, and overseeing IT systems within an organization or provisioned within a public or private cloud.
