The City of Franklin is seeking a full-time Accounts Payable Accountant to join the Finance Department at City Hall.
Duties: Processing accounts payable by maintaining accurate accounting records, recording entries, and ensuring expenditures are properly coded. Audits invoices against purchase orders, verifies encumbrances, resolves discrepancies, and prepares payment requests and warrant lists for City Council approval. Completes required federal and state filings, supports capital asset tracking and depreciation, and records third-party ambulance billings and collections. Prepares monthly and quarterly financial reports, processes debt repayments, reconciles general ledger accounts, and makes necessary adjustments. Assists departments with financial inquiries, supports the annual audit process, and collaborates on encumbrances, purchase order updates, and year-end accruals. Provides backup payroll processing, recommends improvements to financial procedures and internal controls, and offers guidance and training as needed, along with performing other assigned duties. Education/Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s degree in accounting (Bachelor’s degree preferred), three (3) to five (5) years of municipal accounting or finance experience, and at least two (2) years of general accounting experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Hours: Monday-Friday, approximately 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Wages: $28.53 - $37.08/hour, depending on qualifications.
