The City of Franklin is currently accepting application packets for Lateral Transfers (Experienced Officers):

Applicants must be current sworn officer for at least the past 6 months.  If not currently working, must have been a sworn officer within the past 6 months and had been employed by the same law enforcement agency for at least 2 years, and left for non-disciplinary reasons.  Starting Pay $31.03 to $39.41/hour, depending on qualifications.  Lateral Applicants are eligible for an expedited lateral entry process.  Once we receive your application, your process begins.  Those officers that successfully complete the process may also be eligible for an accelerated vacation accrual credit.  This is at the discretion of the Chief of Police, subject to the oversight of the Mayor, and is based on prior years of service.  Those officers currently employed out of state will need to complete a reciprocity exam within 1 year of employment.

Application Instructions

Please be sure to follow the instructions below.  The ability to submit an application packet correctly and to follow the instructions below may be a factor in your hiring process.
 

  1. Complete the Application for Employment.  
  2. Complete these required questions IF you are an experienced police officer (lateral transfer).  
  3. Assemble your application packet which will include the application and your answers to the above questions.  DO NOT send in additional, non-requested information such as other certifications, reference letters, etc.
  4. Application packets must be submitted in a large envelope such as a 9"x12" manila envelope (not a report folder).
  5. Packets should be mailed to: Franklin City Hall, ATTN: Dana Zahn, 9229 W. Loomis Road, Franklin, WI 53132, or can be brought to City Hall.  There is a drop box outside the main entrance (located inside the blue wall) for those wanting to drop off application packets.  No applications will be accepted via email or fax.  DO NOT send application packets to the Police Department.
  6. Please make sure your name is on the outside of the envelope in the top left corner, along with "Experienced", so that your packet is placed in the correct hiring process.
  7. The application process for current officers is expected to be a continuous process and packets will be accepted until the posting is removed.

The application packets will be reviewed to ensure applicants do meet the required criteria and that the application has been completed properly.  Failure to completely fill out the application and/or return it by the deadline will be cause for disqualification.  If you have any questions, please call Human Resources Manager Dana Zahn at 414-427-7505, Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., or via email.
