The City of Franklin is currently looking for a full-time Firefighter/Paramedic to join the Franklin Fire Department. Please carefully read through all application instructions below.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Responsibilities include protecting life and property by performing fire combat, containment, and extinguishment tasks while operating fire apparatus, pumps, and related equipment. As a licensed EMT-Paramedic, you will provide emergency medical care and transport according to City, County, and State standards. Additional duties involve participating in fire drills, attending specialized training in hazardous materials, receiving and relaying fire alarms, and conducting building and hydrant inspections. You will also maintain fire facilities and equipment, perform minor repairs, and present community safety and fire prevention programs. Qualifications & Requirements:
Applicants must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License. Required qualifications include State of Wisconsin Firefighter II and a Wisconsin Emergency Medical Technician–Paramedic (EMT-P) license at the time of appointment. While an Associate Degree in Fire Science is preferred, it is required for future advancement. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform strenuous physical activity for prolonged periods under extreme conditions, including intense heat, heights, and smoke.
Hours, Wages, & Benefits:
This is a full-time, non-exempt position involving both day and night shifts in all weather conditions. Salary is determined per the current Labor Agreement; the current base pay annual salary is $69,276 to $100,930. The City of Franklin offers a comprehensive benefits package. Prior to appointment, and every three years thereafter, employees must successfully pass a medical examination consistent with NFPA 1582 standards.

- Submit the following items in your application packet:
- Completed application - again, please print out the PDF version, do not submit the application electronically.
- Answer on a separate piece of paper the question "Why do you want to be a City of Franklin Firefighter/Paramedic". Be specific in your answer.
- A resume of no more than 2 pages is required.
- Firefighter II certification.
- WI EMT-Paramedic license (or be nationally registered NREMT-Paramedic).
- CPAT certificate, if you have completed the testing and your certificate is not expired. Item 6 must be completed prior to conditional offer of employment being made.
DO NOT include other items, such as reference letters, additional training documentation, etc., in your application packet.
Application packets are being accepted through the closing date of June 8, 2026. Packets should be placed into an approximately 9" x 12" manila envelope and either mailed to the City of Franklin, ATTN: Human Resources, 9229 W. Loomis Road, Franklin, WI 53132, or may be dropped off at the City Clerk's Office at the same address (there is a drop box in the blue wall located outside the main entrance for those wanting to drop off applications after 4:30 p.m.). No applications will be accepted via e-mail or fax. DO NOT SEND APPLICATION PACKETS TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.
The completed applications will be reviewed to ensure applicants do meet the required criteria and that the application has been completed properly. Failure to completely fill out the application and/or submit the proper documents may be cause for disqualification.
