Building Inspection

The Building Inspection Department approves and issues  permits including building, electrical, plumbing, heating, occupancy, sign, erosion control, etc., and performs all inspections related to those permits.  In addition, the Building Inspection Department is responsible for issuing drive approach and culvert permits, inspection of reported code violations, and updating codes and ordinances.  The Building Inspection Department also provides staff support to the Architectural Review Board.

PLEASE NOTE:  Effective July 26, 2010, the City of Franklin's schedule of permit fees for Building, Plumbing, Electrical, and HVAC has been revised.  The website permit applications reflect these fee changes.    

PLEASE NOTE:  Effective June 24, 2010, the City of Franklin will require Certification of Building Grade and Building Location for all new buildings.  See Certification of Building Grade & Setbacks Form.

What types of work require a permit?

Architectural Review Board

One and Two Family residential dwellings, signs, additions, and other projects as required by other boards and commissions must be submitted for approval by the Architectural Review Board.
