The City of Franklin Police Department established the Canine Support Unit in July of 1991 when its first canine team was placed in service. Since that time, the Department has maintained and increased the program which currently utilizes three K9/Handler Teams.
All three canines are dual purpose dogs certified in patrol work and narcotics detection, tracking, building searches, crowd control, and officer protection. They are available for use 24 hours per day.
Along with their regular patrol duties, the Unit also provides demonstrations in the community to enhance public understanding of their function and further the relationship with the citizens we serve.
