Flu Vaccine Clinics

Flu Vaccine is currently still available for children ages 6 months to 18 years on a walk-in basis at the Franklin Health Department Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Flu Vaccine ClinicsProtection from the flu vaccine begins 2 weeks after it is given and lasts 6 or more months.  The flu season begins late December, peaks the month of February, and lasts throughout April.

CHILDREN:

  • Franklin residents 6 months of age and older are eligible for flu vaccine.
  • Children less than 9 years of age need 2 doses if they did not receive the vaccine last year.
  • The vaccination fee for children 6 months through 18 years of age is $10 for those requiring 1 dose and $15 for those requiring 2 doses.

ADULTS:

  • Along with the standard flu vaccine formulation, a new option, FluMist, a seasonal flu vaccine administered as a gentle nasal spray in each nostril will also be offered to healthy adults ages 19 to 49.
  • The vaccine fee is $31 for adults 19 and over receiving the standard formulation.  The FluMist nasal spray formulation is $40 for those 19 to 49 years of age that are eligible.

SENIORS:

  • New High-Dose Vaccine Formulation Option for Seniors 65 Years and Older:  Recent studies show that people 65 years and older may not respond as well to standard-dose influenza vaccine as they do not produce as high of an antibody response following vaccination.  High-dose vaccine is specifically designed to improve the production of antibodies which can provide a stronger immune response.
  • For seniors 65 and older, Medicare covers the cost of this vaccine.
  • Those with the HMO United Healthcare/AARP/Secure Horizons, the cost of the vaccine is covered.  All other HMO members should receive their vaccine through their provider or they can receive the vaccine at the Franklin Health Department for a cost of $31 for the standard formulation or $48 for the high-dose formulation.
  • For any claims rejected by Medicare, clients will be billed.
  • Seniors must bring their Medicare card, their insurance card, and a photo ID such as a driver's license.
