Student Life

Life on the NU Campus

Looking for opportunities to enrich your student experience outside of the classroom? At Northwoods University, those opportunities include 50 campus organizations, 10 musical groups, and dozens of other informal activities.  Student Commons Area

Where else but NU will you find: student and faculty speaking French together at the student union on Saturdays? The world's longest table tennis competition? Campus events that invite the public to join in the fun?  A nationally recognized marathon that starts on our campus doorsteps?  Your challenge will be to find time for all of these unique and fun activities.

But you have to sleep from time to time, right?  Well, the NU residence halls were renovated in 2007, making them comfortable and affordable.

All residence halls house freshmen through seniors and we encourage students to live on-campus.. Each residence hall has unique features and cultural attributes, and the presence of  resident advisors.  These advisors act as as leaders in each residence hall.

You'll find similar amenities in each residence hall:

  • Computer lab
  • Lounge/study space
  • Information desk
  • Free Wi-fi
  • Laundry area

Here are some details about each of our offerings.  At the time of admission, you may select a preferred residence hall as well as a backup selection.

Kasten
Kasten is on the east end of campus and has two stories.  Its unique features include:  each room has a private bath.   It is in a pictueresque location and close to the student union.  With its own dining hall, breakfast is a breeze on those cold Wisconsin mornings!

Wang
Wang is the newest residence hall and open only to juniors and seniors.  It is arranged in suites with private baths in each unit.  Each suite in Wang controls its own heat and air conditioning.  Wang has full kitchens, study lounges, and TV lounges on every floor.  Wang also has its own parking lot open to students through a parking lottery system.

Schilder
Schilder is a smoke-free seven floor residence hall on campus that primarily houses upperclassmen.  Schilder has uniquely shaped rooms (no right angles!) and sinks in every room.  There are social lounges on all seven floors, each equipped with cable TV.

Shoemaker
Schoemaker is the hall closest to the Information Technology center and library.  Shoemaker has spacious bathrooms, a lounge with wall to wall windows, and a sundeck on 3rd floor.
