NU 2008 Campaign

Progress Report - The 2008 Campaign

President Jenkins has repeatedly stressed the need for at least a $150 million investment if NU is to compete with the premier research universities in the country.  A major step has been the construction of the state-of-the-art research center on the NU campus.  With its 2008 dedication, it will provide facilities for neuroscience, biochemical and psychological development.

Our campaign began in January 2006 and , to-date, has received donations and commitments of $293,600,000 through March 1, 2008.    Recently announced major gifts include:

  • $5.5 million from alumnus Jonathon Silvers to establith the Jonathon A. Silvers NeuroScience Lab at the new research center.    Equipped with state-of-the art technology, the lab is expected to draw interest from the medical community.

  • $4 million planned gift from Gale Johnson to establish the Gale and Barb Johnson Scholarship Fund in the College of Letters and Scienses.  These scholarships will prepare students in Journalism to succeed as writers in a business setting.

  • More than 350 active and retired NU employees contributed nearly $125,500,00 to the campaign during the last fiscal year.

President Jenkins summed it up best.  "We are grateful for each and every gift - no matter the size.  We are proud of the support from the Milwaukee community and the NU community."
