Franklin Police Motorcycle Unit

Chief Richard P. Oliva established the Franklin Police Department Motorcycle Unit in July of 2005 and currently uses two Harley Davidson FLHTP Electra Glide motorcycles.

The Motorcycle Unit is currently staffed by one  captain, one sergeant and five patrol officers whose primary duties are traffic enforcement, accident investigation, and escort duties for dignitaries and funerals.  It is a division of the Franklin Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit, which concentrates its patrol efforts on traffic related problems throughout the City.  Each officer assigned to the Unit has undergone extensive training in the operation of a police motorcycle, and is a highly skilled rider.

The Motorcycle Unit has proven to be a highly effective tool in the enforcement of traffic laws and vehicle equipment codes.  Due to its maneuverable nature, the motorcycle is able to get through traffic quicker, and into areas  where a normal patrol squad cannot.  The Unit also provides the Department with an excellent source of community relations.
