Worthless Check Crimes

The Franklin Police Department, in conjunction with the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office, have developed a new procedure for the handling and investigation of worthless checks.

Recently, the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office implemented the Diversion/Accountability Worthless Check Program.  This program is for all worthless checks that are less than $2,500.  If your check is higher than this amount, call the Franklin Police Department and we will investigate your complaint.  The main goals of this program are restitution for victims, accountability for the bad check writers, education for merchants and residents in reducing the number of worthless checks written, and reduce the costs for investigation and prosecuting worthless check cases.  This program is at no cost to the taxpayer or you.  The program is for all businesses and individuals that accept checks or have received a worthless check.

View the Program Guidelines which include instructions on how you can participate.  Also included in these guidelines are the phone numbers and a Preliminary Worthless Check Report that you may submit directly to the program.  If you would like more information please contact Sergeant Kevin Magno at 414-858-2641.

Sincerely,

Richard P. Oliva
