Overview

Franklin is a growing suburban community of 35,741 in the Chicago-Milwaukee I-94 corridor. Situated in southwestern Milwaukee County within a metropolitan population of 1.5 million, Franklin provides a strategic business location within easy driving distance of Milwaukee to the north, Chicago to the south, and Madison to the west.    

Recognized among the Top 100 "Best Places to Live" by Money magazine (August 2011 and August 2007),  Franklin is the largest city in Wisconsin to attain more than 10% population growth since the 2000 census. Franklin also has the highest growth rate of all cities in Southeastern Wisconsin with more than 20,000 population.    

Designated a "City of the Future" by the Financial Times FDI magazine (April/May 2007), Franklin participates in the Metropolitan Milwaukee Technology Zone, with high-speed fiber optic infrastructure, wireless internet service, and reliable and affordable electricity.     

Home to Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance and Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Medical Center, Franklin has three Tax Incremental Finance (TIF) Districts (Map showing TIF Districts 2 and 4 and Map showing TIF District 3) targeted for business development, including the Franklin Business Park and the South 27th Street Corridor. 

Franklin is well-positioned less than ten minutes from General Mitchell International Airport, serving 9.8 million passengers per year. With about 460 daily arrivals and departures, approximately 90 cities are served by nonstop or direct flights from Mitchell International.    

Franklin also benefits from a superb highway transportation network, including four freeway interchanges for Interstate I-94, running parallel to the City's eastern boundary. Eight freeway interchanges for Interstate I-43 and I-894 are located within two miles to the north.

Transportation within Franklin is facilitated by U.S. Highway 45; Wisconsin State Highways 36, 100, and 241 (South 27th Street); and seven Milwaukee County highways, including West Rawson Avenue (BB) and South 76th Street (U).  

Franklin offers excellent local schools, both public and private, with average test scores that well exceed state and national averages.  Many graduates of Franklin High School continue their education at 18 nearby colleges and universities

Frankin is home to two championship caliber Milwaukee County golf courses as well as Tuckaway Country Club which boasts a tournament caliber course.  The Crystal Ridge ski area provides downhill skiing, snowboarding and tubing opportunities, and the Milwaukee County Sports Complex hosts sporting events year round at its indoor and outdoor facilities.  Franklin also benefits from a 4.9 mile off-road segment of the Oak Leaf Trail, which winds its way along the Root River.  With more than 3,800 acres of land reserved for parks and recreation, Franklin provides an ideal setting for employers to recruit and retain well-qualified employees.
